Who Started Atelier Akina
Atelier Akina was founded by Akina Lam, an Australian-born Chinese jewellery designer. She studied design at UTS (ranked as the top art and design school in NSW) and after built a career in the design & tech industry. However, after spending 7 years building up a successful 6-figure career in digital design, she realised that she was not happy.
Akina had a shocking vision of what the world would be like if she continued down this path and ignored her true purpose: to bring more beauty into the physical world (not the digital).
She decided to leave the digital realm behind, taking a sabbatical to follow her heart. Now, she creates handcrafted top-quality jewellery that blends modern and Asian influences, infusing each piece with timeless elegance and cultural significance.
Why we started Atelier Akina
In the past, Akina was always searching for the perfect style that truly represented her. She noticed that her mood and confidence would plummet when she wore an outfit that didn’t align with her personality. After endless scrolling on Pinterest, questionable fashion experiments, and many shopping sprees, Akina finally discovered the power of accessorising with jewellery.
She became obsessed with finding unique jewellery pieces, but quickly found that many designs lacked individuality and quality, often being overpriced, uncomfortable, or causing irritation. This realisation led Akina to leave a successful career in tech and start Atelier Akina.
